Nominees for PALISI Health Global Subgroup American Co-Chair

As a global child health researcher and implementation scientist, Dr. Nadir Ijaz has been an active member of PALISI and the Global Health subgroup since completing his PCCM fellowship in 2022. He regularly attends and actively participates in general PALISI and subgroup meetings as well as the PALISI Global Health Research Lecture Series. He enjoys collaborating with subgroup members on ongoing projects, through which has allowed him to gain a deeper understanding of the foundational work our subgroup has completed, and how we can continue to build on it to improve care for critically ill children globally. He has also developed strong collaborations with several subgroup members to advance a research program focused on improving the delivery of evidence-based respiratory support therapies for children with severe pneumonia in resource-variable contexts. He is also actively involved in the PALISI ECLIPSE (Implementation Science) subgroup.

He is most excited to serve as co-chair because he would enjoy working with other subgroup members and leaders to develop a shared vision for an impact-driven research program that builds on our prior work while continuing to support diverse investigator-led projects. Together, he hopes we can identify complementary lines of inquiry that move us from describing pediatric acute care systems toward generating actionable knowledge to improve care delivery, implementation, and quality improvement globally. Over the long term, Dr. Nadir Ijaz envisions this work to contribute to a global learning network—and ultimately a learning health system—for pediatric critical care. He hopes this shared vision will create new opportunities for early-career investigators to contribute to subgroup activities, strengthen collaborations with aligned professional societies, and, most importantly, accelerate our collective impact on child health worldwide.
